Community Mausoleums
To this very day, tourists in Rome are fascinated to visit the early Christian catacombs. From the time shortly after the Apostles, when the earliest persecution in the church began, Christians buried the dead in vast mausoleums underground. There are miles of these underground burial places.
At Gethsemane Cemetery we have continued in this tradition with our community mausoleums Our two largest mausoleums feature handsomely appointed and climate controlled Chapels, bright and spacious Atriums, and large, open Halls. Masses are celebrated twice a month on a rotating basis, and people can request a mass to be said in honor of loved ones buried anywhere in Gethsemane Cemetery.
These two mausoleums feature entombment options for any individual situation. From single and double crypts, to individual niches for the entombment of cremated remains.
Pricing varies according to crypt location and can be tailored to fit almost any budget. You may find that a purchase of a mausoleum crypt can be more cost effective than purchasing traditional ground space.
Bornemann Mausoleum
The Bornemann mausoleum at Gethsemane Cemetery was originally built in 1928 as a Chapel in Memory of Monsignor George Bornemann. An impressive structure of Virginia Limestone and poured in place concrete, it stands as an everlasting tribute located in the center of Gethsemane Cemetery.
In 1988 it was converted into a community mausoleum with space for 100 entombments. Not only are there are five priests entombed in the original floor crypts surrounding the Sanctuary but you will also find that several current and past pastors of local parishes have chosen the Bornemann Mausoleum as their final resting place.
The Bornemann Mausoleum offers single crypts with a variety of personalized options for memorialization. A massive bronze door with an electronic lock allows private and secure access for visitation at the convenience of the family.
Private Mausoleums
Gethsemane Cemetery currently features five large family mausoleums as well as several smaller above ground Crypts. These mausoleums are privately owned structures built to the families own specifications as to size, design, and memorialization.
Gethsemane Cemetery would be pleased to assist you in the location and construction of such a lasting tribute for your family and loved ones.
